Compassible Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 October 2026.

Who is responsible

Compassible is published by Dmitri Verovski in Tallinn, Estonia, as a personal project. Dmitri Verovski is responsible for the processing described in this policy. Compassible is a free browser extension that replaces the new-tab page and provides optional tools for switching work contexts and staying focused. No Compassible account or payment is required.

Privacy and support contact: verovski.concept@gmail.com. In this policy, “we” and “our” refer to the publisher of Compassible.

Information stored on your device

Compassible stores your settings, shortcuts and their URLs, routines, quotes and favorites, widget information (including a date of birth if you enter one for Years Left), blocking rules and schedules, and cached resources in local extension storage. Uploaded wallpaper images and thumbnails are stored in local IndexedDB. These custom images are not uploaded by Compassible. There is no Compassible cloud account or synchronization service in this version.

Optional browser features process open-tab information, website URLs and most-visited suggestions locally to provide the functions you enable. Tab Switcher and Routine Switcher are off by default and request browser permissions when enabled. Web Blocker requests access to selected sites. Browser permission dialogs let you accept or refuse access.

Usage analytics

Usage analytics is disabled by default. No analytics events are sent until you enable it. You can enable it or withdraw your consent at any time in Help → About Compassible → Share usage analytics, without losing product features.

When enabled, Compassible sends predefined feature events and basic diagnostic categories to PostHog's EU ingestion service. Events include a random installation identifier, event identifier and timestamp, app version, and fixed feature/action/settings categories or bounded counts. This identifier represents a browser-profile installation, not a Compassible user account.

Analytics payloads do not include website URLs, shortcut or routine names, search text, page contents, quotes, dates of birth, uploaded images, filenames, or raw error messages and stacks. Compassible does not enable session recording, automatic page capture or person profiles. It requests that PostHog disable GeoIP processing. Like any network recipient, PostHog receives connection metadata including the originating IP address; this is different from including an IP field in an event payload.

For example, an event can record that a shortcut was added, that a particular widget type was edited, that a feature was enabled, or that an operation failed. It does not contain the shortcut destination, the widget's entered values, or the underlying error text. The installation identifier allows events from the same installation to be linked; this is pseudonymous data, not a claim of complete anonymity.

Turning analytics off stops future event delivery and aborts active requests where possible. It does not recall events already delivered. The local installation identifier is retained across toggle changes. The extension does not maintain a durable offline event queue.

Website icons and curated wallpapers

Automatic icon loading can contact a website directly for its icon, Google's favicon service, and DuckDuckGo's favicon service. Google receives the lookup URL, which may include its path, query or fragment when present in that lookup; DuckDuckGo receives the hostname. Which requests occur depends on available bundled or browser-cached icons and the fallback needed. A saved externally hosted icon may also be loaded again when displayed, subject to browser caching. These requests are separate from usage analytics and are not disabled by the analytics toggle.

Curated wallpaper catalogs and images can be downloaded from our Vercel-hosted infrastructure, Pexels, Unsplash and the image hosts specified by the catalog. Their servers receive ordinary request and connection metadata, such as IP address and the requested resource. Uploaded custom wallpapers remain local. Following a shortcut or attribution link opens the chosen external site, whose own privacy practices apply.

Purposes and recipients

We use local information to provide your customizations and optional features, network requests to deliver icons and wallpapers, and analytics to understand feature use and reliability. Recipients involved in external requests are PostHog, Vercel and its delivery infrastructure, Google, DuckDuckGo, relevant destination websites, and wallpaper providers/image hosts. Compassible does not sell personal information or use it for personalized advertising.

We do not use these data to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility. Support messages are used to investigate and answer your request. We may disclose information when required by applicable law.

Security

The analytics transport and configured external favicon and wallpaper services use HTTPS. Analytics requests omit cookies and referrers. User-entered destinations and externally supplied resource URLs may have their own behavior and privacy practices. Local storage is protected by the browser's extension isolation; Compassible does not add a separate encryption layer to your locally stored customizations. Anyone with access to your browser profile or device may be able to access them.

Storage, deletion and your choices

Local content remains until you change or delete it, clear the extension's data, or uninstall it. You can delete individual supported items through their controls. Browser backups or copies you export are outside this automatic deletion. External requests may be recorded by their service providers under their retention practices.

Our current PostHog Cloud Free plan provides a one-year event-query window. This is a limit on historical availability, not a guarantee that every event and backup is automatically erased after one year. Turning analytics off does not delete events already received. Requests to erase information that can be linked to your installation can be sent to our contact address.

Our current Vercel Hobby plan provides one hour of runtime-log history in its dashboard. This is not a promise that all infrastructure, security or backup records are erased within one hour. Vercel may retain additional records for service operation, security and legal obligations under its own privacy notice. Build logs relate to deployment activity and are retained separately from runtime logs.

If you contact us by email, Google processes the correspondence through Gmail. We retain correspondence while it is needed to resolve your request and any related dispute or legal obligation. Please limit your message to information needed for the request.

Contact us for privacy questions and requests to access, correct or delete information held by us. Because analytics uses an installation identifier rather than an account/email, locating specific events may require that identifier. Do not send passwords or private browsing content with a request.

Your data protection rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability where the relevant conditions apply. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. Contact verovski.concept@gmail.com to exercise these rights. We may request information proportionate to verifying your request and locating the relevant data. We normally respond within one month; where the law allows an extension, we will explain it within that period.

You may lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon, https://www.aki.ee/) or your competent local supervisory authority. Compassible does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects using automated decision-making or profiling.

Legal bases and international processing

Optional usage analytics is processed on the basis of your consent, given by enabling Share usage analytics in About Compassible. Turning the switch off withdraws that consent for future collection without affecting earlier processing or access to product features.

We process ordinary support correspondence and necessary service-operation information for our legitimate interests in answering requests and operating a reliable service. We process information needed to meet statutory obligations, including handling data-protection requests, on the basis of those obligations.

PostHog uses an EU ingestion endpoint for our analytics. This does not mean that every provider, support operation or subprocessor is located exclusively in the EU. External icon, wallpaper, hosting and email providers may process data in other countries.

You can contact us for information about the providers involved in a specific request and applicable international-transfer safeguards. We do not promise that all processing takes place exclusively within the EU.

We will update this policy when data handling changes and show the latest revision date here.
